First day of 2025 and once again I am thinking about the best 5 films of the last Year.

5 - The Boy and the Heron [9/10]
For Hayao Miyazaki's next adventure, I had high hopes and was curious to
see with what he came up with. And with the truly remarkable age of 83
he delivered one of the best film starts to a year, I ever had!
Going
into the cinema early in January, always holds a special place for me,
as this starts a journey all over again: To discover new stories and
unseen pictures and sometimes sets the tone of what's to come. So I was
very happy that this anime didn't disappoint.
In truly unique Miyazaki fashion, you are dragged into a world of wonder
and magic. This time, he and his team focused once again on a more grown
up story about loss and who to handle it. This
film definitely has his weaknesses in the middle part and some untold
stories, but it was such a joy to watch, with every scene feeling like a
painting once again!

4 - Poor Things [9/10]
Already being praised at all the international film festivals, I had
quite the expectations for Poor Things. So no wonder, with 9 out of 10
points, these expectations were met.
Since an eternity, I haven't seen a
fantastic film being released, so it was refreshing to see all the
ideas Yorgos Lanthimas and his team came up with. From great acting to
a truly unique setting and story. With many twists and turns, this one
stuck with me for a while. A must watch!

3 - Dune Part 2 [9/10]
Rarely do I watch a film twice in cinemas, but with Dune Part 2 I had no choice. Getting indoctrinated by the Fremen, I just had to watch this
special masterpiece once more in cinemas.
Although the 2nd doesn't quite reach the 10 points of the first movie, I
loved the epic pictures I got to witness and the epic fights throughout
the 120 minutes.
Following Paul Atreides on his way to become the Lisan al gaib needs to be watched on the big screen!
Denis Villeneuve showing why he is one of the most exciting directors in recent times and gave Dune finally its proper cinematic treatment.

2 - Inside Out 2 [9/10]
This is a special one for me. The first film is one of my favorites of
all time, so I was very skeptical of what Pixar wants to tell in a 2nd one!
The
visit to the cinema felt like a trip back in time. I was lucky to visit
this one with my sister. Inside Out 2 tells the story about puberty and depicts the topic of friendship, and at the heart of what it means to grow up:
"Do we lose the simple happiness in life when we grow up?"
But what
made this one soooo enjoyable are the perfectly placed jokes, which work
for adults as well as the kids. Probably the funniest film I have
watched this year!
A very touching film for young and old.

1- The Zone of Interest [10/10]
The first film ever to score a 10/10 in my yearly Top 5 Blog.
A film like no other, covering the life of the wife and family of the concentration camp commandant of Auschwitz. Sandra Hüller plays a difficult role, to perfection.
I feel hard to call this even a film, as it's filmed in a documentary style I have never seen before but immerses you into this world fully, which makes every scene feel shocking real...With the precarious story frame of this film, they treat the horrific topic with respect and dignity. The sheer terror of what is happening inside the camp playing out "mainly" in your mind is what makes this film standout. Even if no specific imagery is shown, you know what ishappening.
This film hit hard and I will never forget it, especially for the great and dignifying ending.
